Any ex RAF SAR MBC on here
Hi, my name is Graham Young I served in the RAF as motor boat crew S.A.R senior deck hand from 1972 until 1978.
Started my "square bashing" 6 weeks RAF Swinderby in June/July 1972, then 10 weeks intensive trade training at RAF Mountbatten Plymouth. From there I was posted to RAF Alness 30 miles north of Inverness an old sea plane base.
Out of the six years I spent a total of 5 years at RAF Alness serving on HMAFV Seagull a 120 ft all steel Long Range Recovery Search Craft (L.R.R.S.C) Moored at Invergordon on the Cromarty firth about 3 miles from the Alness. I was senior deck hand incharge of the weapons flat and Gemini craft and the aft deck.
From Jan 1975 to Oct 75 I was posted to RAF Gan in the Maldives for a 9 months a small 1 mile x 1/12 mile men only island in the Addu Atoll It was an old staging post for flights to Honkong and Singapore (I know its rough ha,ha) it was really just a runway and 600 blokes but WOW. I always wondered what happened to rhe craft we had though when it closed in 1976.
Then posted back to RAF Alness as the wife stayed there and kept the married quarter as getting posted back to Alness from Gan was never going to be a problem as it was not seen as a "good posting" but we liked it.
So I know its a long shot but are there any ex MBC out there.
