David Maddrell

Hi
I am new to forum.

ZODIAC FUTURA MK1:

I’ve just resurrected my zodiac future Mk1, I’ve had stored for probably 18 years. It was great fun, with my daughters back in the early 1990’s.through to early noughties.

She proved to be quick, highly manoeuvrable and forgiving with what was then a 25HP 2stroke engine.

I am getting an ex RNLI coxswain friend to give it a once over.

If she proves to be ok I will be then trying to source a new/ copy transom if that is not a ridiculous ask.

ADVICE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED.

The aim is to have it as a first time Family run around for both my daughters, son in laws and our grandchildren when they come here to IOM for summer visits.

Good luck have you still got the 2 stroke probably the best motor for that outfit modern 4 stroke will be a lot heavier and slower

Try for an idea of a transom https://shop.chastheboat.co.uk/

I actually still do have the 2 stroke, as it happens. I would definitely bring it back into service if I can sort the transom.

Thanks for advice.

Interesting thread. I used to have a Zodiac MKII CGT and Yamaha 25D 2-stroke. Great combination.

The transom can be repaired. Previous thread here: https://www.rib.net/forum/f50/zodiac...air-48320.html

Be particularly critical of the boat. Any loose fabric material on edges or seams, sand, degrease and glue. It’s an old boat now and welded seams or glued areas can fail.

Inflate the boat to pressure and check with a soapy water mixture inspecting the entire surface area. The end cones deteriorate too, again can be repaired with the right preparation and gluing temperatures. The rubber end cones are still available from Zodiac.

I’d also replace the rubber parts on the valves (probably Delrin valves), including ‘o’ rings and diaphragms. Again, parts still available.
