Fuel in bilge when filling

Hi wondering if anybody could help filled under deck tank via jerry cans. All was going well until say the last 4litres that came rushing from inner deck into bilge. Tank is still showing full so no loss from tank no splash back from filling hose. Have since flushed bilge no more fuel leaking out and now dry. Have changed fuel lines from tank to engine as looked old. Have checked filler hose and breather all seem ok and dry also checked around gasket no sign of leak coming direct from there other than sings of fuel flooding from fill up. anything im missing??? Could it just be a matter of over filling using jerry cans usually use pump that would cut out when full.

Is the fill point waist high in the side of the console ? in my r/c it was nescesary to remove the fuel hose off the tank top to get the battery out , this meant if you didnt get it back on perfectly then next fill any fuel left in the pipe above tank level would run out into console as well as a little while filling then in my case down the elephants trunk to the bilge ........maybe worth a check !

I Had a similar problem some years ago, turned out to be the fuel gage sender unit. The "flange" that holds the unit and bolts into the tank was galvanized and had rusted through. It was fine all bar the last few litres which like you ended up in the bilge.

Good luck

Andy
