Hello from Argyll

Hi folks, greetings from sunny Argyll (not!).

Been a WAFI all my life, but after a severe stroke have joined the dark side and bought a Humber ocean pro 6.3 with a 150 yamaha on the blunt end. Had her (Solskin) for a year now and am loving the speed, handling and accessibility the craft gives me. Marina kept, I have had a pole fitted to pontoon to allow me to get off boat. Ideal! Having used more fuel in last season than I have in a Lifetimes sailing! (considerably more). Rib is only 3 years old and I was interested in copper coating forum. Heavy fouling this season in Holy Loch, next year will require 2-3 liftouts and scrubs....Maybe coppercoat is the way to go!
Thanks again and look forward to speaking with like minded peeps.

Hi Calum. And welcome. My dad keeps his boat at HL Marina so we'll give you a wave next time we're down that way.

Hi Dan

Hi Dan, thanks for the message, yup it's going to be a long wet winter, but spring will be here soon and boat back in water. Give me a shout if you are down next year.

Cheers

Calum

I changed to a hard boat when we moved to a marina. I got it coppercoated 3 years ago and it’s been lifted once a year for an hour to get jet washed with a flurry of antifouling on the engine and waterline. I’ve also got a scrubbis floaty bottom scrubber which takes any minor slime off.
It has worked pretty well - we have salt water in the summer with a bit of fresh in the winter when it starts raining. Overall, I would recommend it.
Having said that, we’ve got a lot of weed on the bottom now as we’ve had a very hot autumn. We’re just back from Islay and Mull, it wasn’t quite so hot there[emoji23]

Coppercoat

Thanks for that Ferryman. We have brackish water here as it rains so much, I have even seen the Marina completely frozen over as was upper Loch Fyne due to fresh water sitting on top of salt! I might have to bite the bullet and get the boat done...we will see!

Hi Calum, I'm thinking of getting a floating dock to avoid all the hassle of lifting the boat out. Not sure how easy it will be to get the boat on and off this and whether the Tarbert Marina will allow a floating dock. Will look out for you in Argyll waters!
