Hello from Dunbar

Have been using the forums over the last few weeks since getting my Tornado 5.4 with 90hp in early January - Sunday Best from SimonCh, lovely boat and well loved and cared for by Simon. Forum's been a great resource for advice and ideas, so thought I should say hello

Already had two trips out from Dunbar to North Berwick via Bass Rock this January and heading for a week out of Clachtoll in the Summer.

Hoping to explore sea lochs and other stretches of the west coast too. Wondered if there is a community of likeminded souls looking to join up for some cruising over the Spring/Summer or if there's any such events open to newbies.

Look forward to participating
Paul

Hello

The Easdale Rib Rendezvous is a good group event on the west coast. Boats of all sizes and experience so you would be welcome to attend that in late April .

Hi Beerbelly, thank you for the welcome. We're probably in Clachtoll, the first week of July, though not confirmed yet. Are you a frequent visitor up there and part of the rib fraternity?
It's a stunning location and the cruising is awesome - my first outing was from there about 16 years ago (with Bill Smith) and included wake jumping the Ullapool/Stornaway ferry, lunch with the seals on (otherwise) uninhabited Summer Isles, lots of exploring .Was up last August and had a wee trip up towards Handa, sea was like a millpond, gorgeous!
Also heading down your way-ish in March for a wee trip around the Farnes and Beadnell
Cheers
Paul

no I'm relatively new up there but bill smith helped me out last year when a wheel fell off my trailer lending me one of his (long story best saved for telling with whisky)but it made no difference as the week we had last year was gale force horizontal rain every day with seas that made bondi beach look like a mill pond breaking waves over split rock. the year before with my sr4 was a lot better tho

Hi beer belly an Hogmanay
We were at Achmelvich last week in July and first two weeks in August, first stated going there as a kind in the mid sixties although my old man started going fishing up there while before that,
Anyway it wasn't a good summer last year weather wise (also health wise with my knee) but as you say some great places to go around to in a boat and great places to go diving and fishing. Maybe we will bump into each other up there

Thanks Jambo, I've just registered and my wife has decided she's not being left out too. Always been fascinated by the Corryvreckan and excited that I might get a chance to get up close. Flew over it a few years ago in a wee Robinson R22 helicopter, my Mate (the pilot) was pretty cynical about Scotland having one of the world's most powerful whirlpools until we were overhead at what I assume was an optimum period of the tides. Needless to say, despite her excitement, Mrs is a little bit worried about this part of the route, despite no qualms about the rest...

Hopefully and weather permitting, see you there.
