Hello from San Diego - time for a RIB

Hey everyone - looks like a great site here I just stumbled on, lots of expertise. I'm a long term SIB owner since 1994 of a Futura Mark III but alas after my 3rd hull which has run the last 15 years the transom and keel are now failing. With any hope I'm looking to switch gears and get a RIB in the 5-6m range, and finally move over to hypalon.

With any luck I'm hoping to find a RIB setup I can use my center console and 50hp 2 stroke on from the current SIB. Let the searching begin.

Welcome. Just a thought, 50hp won't be much on a 5-6m hull. A lot of guys run 50hp two strokes on Avon 4m's. I run a 90hp two stroke on a 5.4m.

So, just think about what you want. Something to run the 50hp on? Or, a 5-6m rib where you'll need to have a bigger engine.

I was in a similar situation, my 17-year-old Futura MKII just bit the dust. I ended up getting a new Bombard C4 hull to replace it with last month. Next time I will be looking at RIBs as well!

Yes, welcome fellow San Dieger !
I also run a df90 on a 5.4 rib and seems just about right, (performance against economy )
See you out there !

Welcome aboard. Keep your search area broad. A lot of good deals pop up all over the state (and country). My last two Ribs came from San Diego and I recently got one from Texas.

But the best deal always shows up the day after your purchase , so after you buy, don't look!

Great advice!

I'm also tempted to use the 50 on the 5-6m setup even though underpowered with plans to repower when additional $$$ are available. Although plowing through the ocean not on plane doesn't sound fun.

Easiest way is to look for a boat with motor. Craigslist, Boattrader, and the North American For Sale forums seem to have a few RIBs. Might also look for a copy of Latitude 38 at your local chandler - they used to have quite a few tenders for sale.

Luck;
