Hello, from sunny-ish South Wales

Hello everyone,

Although I dont own a Rib at present I am actively looking for one.

I've signed up to hopefully get some advice and tips on owning and running a rib and maybe even buying one through the site!

I've lived near the sea for too long and not owned a boat. I love surfing, swimming, fishing and generally anything to do with the water. Life's too short not to enjoy yourself.

I want a rib to beach hop, fish and hopefully with enough ooomf to pull a small inflatable for my family.

I live on the Gower peninsula and am looking forward to finding out more!

Thanks Jack

Hi Jack and welcome, I'll be down your neck of the woods mid July. Staying near Rhossili. Looking forward to exploring the Gower in my SIB.

Well let's hope I'll be in the water around the same time as you!!

Just lost out on a terrific looking Avon sport. Literally 30 minutes away and was messaged to say it had been sold on another website!

I'll keep looking and hopefully sonething will come up soon.

Welcome, Jack, everyone here is really friendly and helpful, so don't ever feel you can't ask a stupid question (although you may get some hilarious, forthright answers!). It's a great community.

I’m up the coast where will you want to launch? A 4-6m rib would likely do all you need the large tidal range means most harbours and slips dry out (apart from Swansea and cardiff marinas so chances are you may be launching off the beach, some places have tractors for launching others you take your car on the beach, this is a consideration for your car possibly

Swansea watersports are a local training provider and over PB2 and other courses well worth doing before you buy prices are massively up for Covid so beware.

Thanks for the info.

I live near Penclawdd and Loughor so have the option of tidal launches if I just wanted to stay around the estuary.

I imagine my main areas would be Oxwich or Port Eynon unless the tide is right for me to stay local.

I have experience with Ribs through my work but no official qualification. I will look at a short course to brush up and pick up some useful tips.

Loughor boat club is a good place to start, if somewhat limited on tides. Would you drive to Oxwich to launch? The ramp isnt the best even when tide is in, and beach is pretty flat.
Port Eynon ive not launched from but have seen tractors launching there I think there is a club. From loughor you have a nice run to Tenby just watch out for the firing range and be aware of the exclusion zones

Hi Jack,
I'm about a month ahead of you - life is for living. Always hankered for "a boat" and have bought a 5.1m Rib. Seats 4. Have been out once and have a lust of friends ready to explore the Menai Strait /Anglesey / Llyn with me.
Prices up with Covid, also a shortage of outboards (due to Suez accident!!) So when you see something - grab it!!
Pob lwc
