Hello from the Severn

Hello all,

Yep another newbie here, looking forward to getting involved with the forum. I'm not currently a boat owner but have had a couple in the past. Studying Yachtmaster at the moment and doing lots of exploring of the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary at the moment. Previous experience has been with RYA Establishments in France and Greece. I'm also interested in the commercial side of things and extreme areas of operation.

Fair winds and calm seas...

Hi Bren and welcome along.... We're Pembs based but have a couple of Monthly commitments on the Severn (Minsterworth, Lydney, Beachley and Cardiff Barage launches) as well as Hovercraft surveys in the summer months... Enjoy the forum!

Thanks guys good to hear from you.

Yes the Severn etc is a great area, challenging some might say but I like it. RazorBill, sounds like you know the area well? Interesting work too.

Not sure what I'm looking to buy at the moment, like I say I'm studying a lot at the moment so really trying to build experience of different craft / vessels and bodies of water. Hoping to get up to the Menai Strait next year and would love to plan a passage out to Scilly sometime. However if the opportunity presents itself I'd like to get to get out to St Kilda.

The Severn certainly commands a level of respect! It constantly challenges.... I think we've barely scratched the surface of knowing it....

No not us with the two seater Hcrafts.... Quite a popular cruising ground. We're usually stuck in the middle of the muddy intertidal getting filthy!

My thoughts are that a really well set up fully rollered trailer is a must on the Severn.... It fairly rips past some of those slipways! Look fwd to seeing what boat you settle on in due course
