Hello from UK

Hi All,

A quick intro from me. I enjoyed rib'ing with an Avon Adventure 560 in the mid / late nineties in Pwllheli, but sold it when I moved to the South East in 2001.

Roll on to 2015 and I have two children (5 and 7) and we discovered a great campsite next to a lake in France - Lacanau - which re-ignited my interest in boating.

So, I am considering how best to get back into children friendly boating with a SIB - so looking at Bombard Aerotec and Zodiac Futura - to take to France and use on the south coast in the UK

Hi and welcome to Ribnet. I'm sure the usual sib boys will be along soon to offer you plenty of advice. Meanwhile whatever you choose I hope you have many happy and safe hours with your family.
Cheers
J

Yep welcome monkey.

Have you looked through the "Which SIB" thread?

http://www.rib.net/forum/f50/which-s...sib-62208.html

If you've been away from boating or perhaps not been involved with under 4m SIBs then it might give you some ideas for questions in the Inflatable boat section.

Things that will assist advice... like how you'll carry it about... hatch/estate/campervan etc. Can you lift heavier outboards? Do you want speed or pootling? Dog with you on trips? Funds for new or used... approx ball park spend?

thanks guys.

I've been ploughing through some of the older threads to try and avoid making the same mistakes as others.

I notice the futura gets an occasional mention, but nothing like the airtime of say the Aerotec - is this because they are not as luggable in the back of a car?

Not wanting to kill the chat on this thread as such but if you post that question as a new thread in the Inflatable section more folks will pick it up from the question in the title when they scan the Recent Discussion list to the right of this page.

Check the rules in france as they are quite strict on regs etc you may need to do a RYA Powerboat level 2 and get an ICC (even Cevni cert) so factor this in to your thinking.

Why a SIB not a RIB? rather than trying to put the boat in the car you tow the boatan put stuff in it.....

I'm trawling through the old posts on Futura and Aerotec, which is all very interesting - I'll post in the SIB forum shortly.

Re France, I believe that the lake does not require registration if HP <100, but will check if any other certs are required. I completed RYA PB level 2 and VHF around 20 years ago, but I think it makes sense to repeat when I have a boat sorted.
