Hello from Victoria BC

Hi All, I'm signing on from Victoria BC, west coast of Canada on Vancouver Island. I live along the beautiful Gorge Waterway just outside downtown Victoria.

I'm a multi-boat owner, but just sold my trusty 16' Hourston Glascraft (to be replaced with a bit larger cruiser). I have a little custom Lund aluminum for the freshwater lakes, and just bought a 12.5' aluminum floor PVC inflatable for putzing around the harbor and local islands.

I love to tinker and fabricate custom toys, so I figured a place like this would be a great spot for advice and ideas. I'll post up a couple of pics of the kit on the gorge once it's rigged properly and completes some hardy sea trials (lol). My power options are likely to be my old 6hp Johnson for Gorge Duty, or my 15hp Mercury for the open water. I also have a literal boat-load full of electrics to try out as well.

First purchases will need to be some launching wheels, and either a better bench seat or pedestal that I can use my folding seats with. Might like to try a Bimini top too.

Looking forward to sharing and learning with you old salty dogs...

Hi and welcome,

How fortunate are you to live in such a beautiful and civilised part of the world

We were suppose to be on Vancuver island late August early Sept for a few weeks holiday but have decided to postpone it until next year due to covid

Is that a 15hp 2 stroke or a 4 stroke EFI?

An older 2 stroke - 1997 Mercury Force. I have been mulling the idea of swapping out for a new 15-20hp 4-stroke, but it's hard to get rid of this one since it runs like a top, and it's so compact and easy to handle for its age.

The new ones are certainly appealing though, now that the weight is much closer, and the noise reduction and fuel economy are so dramatically improved.

I was raised in Northern Ontario in a very French part of the province, so I feel like I WAS ruled by the French. My conversational skills have declined living out west for 25+ years, but I can still curse fluently. lol
