Hello, just got my first outboard!

Hi, been lurking for a month or so - thanks to these forums I’ve learnt to know what to look for and have purchased a 15hp Mercury. Thought it was about time I registered. Got her started in a vat of water yesterday and seems to be running sweet!

Now looking forward to purchasing a SIB and heading out on the water next month!

Welcome and thanks for taking the trouble to share photos. I like your engine stand!

btw, you might want to get some flush muffs to run the engine from a hose pipe, they're not very much money and so much more convenient.

Thanks for the welcome Limecc. I knocked the engine stand together after some inspiration on here. Was going to be a temporary solution but it’s plenty sturdy. Yes I think I’ll pick some up, I was just itching to make sure it ran as it was an eBay purchase! Luckily it ran great.

Hi and welcome from me too. Nice OB... I've had three of that type and they've all been great. From what I can see it looks to be in excellent cosmetic condition... is it 1997 or thereabouts??

What boat do you have?

Thanks Fenlander. That’s great to hear. Inside looks great, I’ve no experience with outboards but am familiar with two stroke engines on older trial bikes. I’m not sure on the age, I have the serial number so I must look it up. I think you’re about on the mark though. No boat as of yet... i’m going to look round some showrooms with the Mrs so we can get an idea on what size would best suit us. Have looked through the “which sib” post so have some good ideas.
