Hi everyone

Just a quick hello as I'm new. I've just purchased my first SIB (3 meters)and a 3.5hp outboard. I live in East Yorkshire - UK. As a novice I'd be more than happy take onboard (excuse the pun) any hints and tips you guys can throw at me.

The 3.5 hp will be a nice light motor to pootle about. If however you want to get on the plane you would need at least a 6 hp with one person and a 9.8 or 15 hp for 2 people. Check what the max outboard power your boat can take however. This will be noted on the Transom plate and might be in KW so you would need to convert to hp. Sometimes they list both HP and KW

Hello and welcome from me too.

Is this your first foray into boating or is it just the inflatable experience that's new?

Edit: Oops see you put in the other post that you are new to boating. I hope you enjoy the new pastime, it's kept me interested for over 60 years.

Thanks mate. It will take up to 15hp, but I don't trust myself yet. Also I'm having to carry the motor to wherever I'm launching from, so the 3.5hp fits the bill for now. This said I've already been looking at larger ones, but if I buy one now I might end up single ;-)

Not totally new, I lived in Australia for a year many, many moons ago and worked as a diver. Just making sure tourists didn't get themselves perished, so I got a bit of experience then. I've been on a holiday on the Norfolk Broads too, but that's it, so I am pretty much a novice. This said some of the skills have come back much quicker than expected - I even managed to tie a bowline not without much thought!!
