Just bought my first SIB

Hi, I've just bought a used Honwave T40 with a 20hp Honda 4 stroke. I've been lurking around here for ages and finally bought something. I cant wait to get out and use it now!

Welcome to the forum Jamie. Nice roomy and stable outfit you've bought with decent power. Is it just your first SIB or first boat?

Where do you intend to launch? Trailer or daily inflate with transom wheels?

I had a really small suzemar years ago with a 5hp which used on the canal outside my house, and I’ve been messing around on my friends boats for years, sail and power. However this is my first “significant” craft. I’m going to see how it goes this year and then all being well maybe upgrade for next year. It’s on a trailer at the moment and to start with I’ll be launching in Itchenor. But my friend has just bought a Sea Search so we will be exploring all sorts of places this year. No doubt I will get transom wheels as well to add versatility. Any advice you may have for a newbie would be well appreciated.

Jamie

Having that outfit on a trailer is a good move as the price you pay for such a roomy setup is weight. Itchenor is a good place for a start, I cut my teeth in that area many years ago when a kid as we were lucky to have friends with a creek fronting place at West Wittering.

As you are trailing you might find transom wheels aren't needed, perhaps just get some inflatable rollers in case you need to pull out in unexpected circumstances away from the launch site slip.

As you've been about with a friend on the sea (I assume) then you should know the basics but the "which kit" thread makes for a good read.

Beyond that ask anything that comes to mind, there is good experience of outfits like yours on here.

When you first get out we all like to see a few photos uploaded.

Thanks for the replies, I’ve been reading these boards for quite a while now so pretty much all of my questions have already been answered. The “which kit” thread is brilliant. My next job will be to put a peli box together with some essentials in it.
