Hi guys, Im a proud owner of a Tohatsu m40d and soon my own zapcat, which is being build at this very moment.
Ive read alot on this forum and foremost the thread of the "roflhat zapcat" experience.
Especially the Tohatsu 50 tuning part of the thread.
Tohatsu now has had a total rebuild on the engine.
Head is done, running 12 bar on all three cilinders.
50hp carbs on it.
"reduced" the fuel "injectors" (dont know the correct word) to 132-132-130 in the carbs. Middle choke is gone now so that is why.
The two "spools" under the flywheel are gone.
Ports of the cilinders are "adjusted"
Boyesen dual stage reeds.
rpm limiter removed.
Jackplate to adjust hieght fairly easy.
Have ran like 10 different props now on the boat and still struggling to get a consistant top speed of 100kmh+ (1 person, 90kg). Top speed with ideal conditions was 103kmh but that was with the river flow direction favouring my side.
Waiting to receive the new prop upcoming week. Which is a 17P 11" with quite some rake compared to earlier ones.
Top speed was with a 18P cleaver with less rake.
Tried a 19P 11" from MTM which was good maybe for top speed but thee holeshot took forever.
For rough waters runnig a semi cleaver with quite some cup. 16.5P 11" which is great with 1 person. Havent tested it with two guys in the boat yet.
All is tested behind a 2022 ceaser. New cat will be the Mako Atomic.
So yeah, came to the forum to get a 100kmh+ in normal conditions. Will continue reading but not sure what to do with the engine next to give it more top end.
enjoy thee sunday
