New guy need some help identifying rib?

Hi Folks,
Recently bought a 3.8m rib as a 'winter project' and I can not for the life of me find out the make/model.
I was wondering if any of you guys could help identify it.

Hi BigMac,
As the designer I can certainly help you with this. It is a very early Carson 400. Most were supplied as small workboats, diving tenders, etc. Considering it must be at least 30 years old and almost a museum item it still seems pretty good. These were built in the early 80s for commercial use then superseded by the Carson 420 that is now built by Probond Marine Ltd. in Aberdeenshire. The current Carson 420 is a very different design as you'll see if you go to their website where you'll find out more.
If you want any more info please ask and I'll do my best to help out.
Cheers,
Barry

Hi Barry,
Thank you very much for the info and it is a pleasure to meet the designer of the rib Been driving me crazy trying to find out any info at all.
It was a safety boat and I believe it was very well looked after.
I am hoping to restore it to its former glory.
Thanks again.

You're very welcome Mac.
It doesn't look like a lot of work is needed to put it back on the water.
Do you know where it was used as a safety boat before you acquired it?
Do you know anything else about its history?

Yes, it's always nice to hear about any of my older boats still giving good service, often retired from years of professional use then coming into private ownership after a harder life at the sharp end. We did very few for the leisure market so any out there now tend to be ex military or commercial ribs. My old Quickstep on papayarcticadventure.blogspot.co.uk is another example, but far from retiring to a quiet life.

Hi Barry,
I think you are right, the trailer needs more work than the boat. A testament to good design and a quality build
I believe she was a safety boat on the Solent for many years then ended up in Devon for a very short while before I spotted her.
Will do Jeff, I will keep you all updated on progress.
Thanks again.

Mac,

Welcome to Carson ownership, as Barry has already mentioned its fantastic to see these boats still out there and in good shape after many years of service. If we can be of help just get in touch.

Colin
