New member seeking advice on where to learn rib tube repair / manufacture

Hello, this is my first time posting on rib.net, in spite of looking through old posts for info and advice over the years! I'm from Kerry, Ireland and have enjoyed many adventures off the southwest coast on ribs and sailboats over the years.

I decided to make my first post as I'm looking for advice on where I could find courses or tuition in rib tube manufacture and repair. I'm over in Southampton at the moment, so I thought while I'm here it might be a more likely place to find this sort of knowledge than where I come from back in Ireland. Does anyone know any company or person in or around Southampton that might offer work experience, courses or tuition in this industry? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Most of these types of trades are learned by doing them under a mentors watchful eye. Should be able to learn plenty in a couple of years working in a boat repair shop.

Of course these days Youtube can be a decent trainer IF you weed out the wrong videos to watch.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure if you are after a career where you'd commit to the company for an apprenticeship or intern position... or do you just want good DIY skills? If the latter, as Jeff and Peter say, plenty of info online and on YouTube.

If you want a more established position with a company Google Rib repairs Southampton and give the places a call.
