I understand this argument but I'd counter it by suggesting:

1. Families with busy lives are restricted to which week/ends they can go boating anyway, so still need to plan in advance.

2. A shared purchase enables a bigger boat which makes it capable of a wider range of conditions in comfort.

3. You might actually go out more if the boat is only available on preset dates than if you wait and see if tomorrow is better.

Good points, and something i would certainly consider the up keep costs of a 3m are annually probably more than 1/6 the upkeep of a 6m (insurance, depreciation, servicing etc). but would probably be in better shape for being used more. I often see marinas full of boats not doing anything along with compounds full.

Realistically shared ownership could allow for the same £ per annum access to several different craft. Which would be great........................
