New to site, High to all

Look forward to scanning through this site. Looks like the only place to be for help and advise.
I have a 3.8 Tohatsu boat that I fish out of. Currently looking to replace my Tohatsu 15hp for a 25hp.
Launch from Christchurch.

Take care, Dobra##

'low dobra # #. Welcome to Rib.net

Will you be sticking with Twatsoo for your 25hp upgrade? Their 2-stroke is a nice motor

I am open to which I go for.
Yes think the Tohatsu's are good.
I dont mind a mercury or mariner.
Just excited about a bit more power.
The 3.8 is a bit heavy for the 15hp I think. Not saying that its slow its just I like a bit more.
Thanks for reply

Because they are about the only 2 strokes I can see that are close to 50kg.
Any suggestions?

Is it the boat that has a weight limit, or yourself, for lugging it around? Twatsoo will outperform the Merc/Mariner by a long way, Yam 2 cylinder performs about the same as the Merc. Merc is a very simple motor, easy to work on, etc. so has its advantages.

I thought that the merc, mariner and tohatsu are all about the same. It is a weight limit that I have. As for yams you dont seem to see them come up for sale often. Well what I mean is I havnt seen them come up much.
Am after one that is 2001 up to about 2006. Got a budget.

Hi Dobra. Only the newer 4 stroke Merc/Mariners are made by Tohatsu. The one you are interested in is a "proper" Merc - 2005.

The latest 30hp Merc & Mariner 2-strokes are re-badged Twatsoos, but as Tim M says, the 25hp motors are made by Mercury.

Yes thanks for that.
Wishing I was coastal. Wanted that most of my life. Cant beleave I have not moved yet. You lucky lucky thing. Lyme regis being one of my favourates.
Dont mind meeting up some time. You will have to wait for me to set the thing up. Bet you got a rib?
Its a shame about my engine, its lovely but just not enough top end for me on my boat with fishing gear.

I'm very lucky with boats . Currently two 4m ribs, but also a bombard 380 sib..(with a 25 merc same as Tim m )which has given me some of the best days out imaginable at Christchurch....remember small is the new big.:-)
