Newbie Photographer

Hi Folks

I am new to the concept of ribbing as a hobby, my main intrest is maritime photography, I have been taking photos for the last 2 years, I have found a fascination with the sea and the coast, my sailing experience is really limited, I had two trips under sail in Cyprus (which I wish I had taken further), several trips on various calmac ferries and a fantastic day out to the bellrock lighthouse last year.

What brings me to your forum? well I have a bit of a intrest in lighthouses, and I was wondering how you would get to skerry voe and a google search brought up this forum. What I really hope to acheive is to make contact with like minded people who like being out on the water, and maybe even charter someones RIB for a couple places I really want to photograph, my problem is I dont really know where to start

P.S incase anyones intrested then some of my work is on Flikr

Welcome to Ribnet. I like your photos, particularly the HDR ones. I'm sure there will be people on here that will be able to help you in your quest.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Amazing photos You should start a 'how to' thread and show us some techniques for taking photos out on the water and also what you can do to them on the computer when you get them home.

I've just purchased a Nikon J1 but I have yet to find out its full potential.

Best of luck.

Hi and welcome. I like your photos, they're technically very accomplished. The colours and your use of slow shutter speeds are especially good. If you ever want to go to some of the lighthouses in and around the Channel Islands / Gulf of St. Malo area then get in contact. Down here, we have the Roche Douvres light which is the most remote in Europe and Mont St. Michel which, although not a lighthouse, is beautifully lit at night.
My own Flickr page is given below.

Had a look on your website a few time and I must say that your paper sculptures (origami) are very impressive, however I am surprised that you have not made a rib. Any particular reason ??

BTW warm welcome butch4343

Thanks, I haven't folded anything for a while; I've been busy with my other job. I don't design origami models myself so I'll have to wait for someone to draw one up. However, we're all waiting for a book that will have diagrams for a sailing ship being attacked by a giant squid - all folded from one uncut square: Origami Kraken | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
