Hi ,
i am a Sydney, Australia based RIB enthusiast and with the strong Aussie $ i was looking at trying to purchase an ex military Zodiac's etc from the US.

Has anyone had any experience with this ,and or contacts preferrably US West Coast from a shipping perspective ?

Thanks

Have you not looked at graysonline.com?.

The last bunch of Zodiac Hurricanes have been going VERY cheap.
I have one that I restored and am very happy.

I got one too. There are three or four different websites. They bounce back and forth between San Diego area and Virginia with a few in random places.

G'day Ian, I am lead to believe that ex U.S military gear can only be sold to U.S citizens and couldnt be taken out of the US. Not sure why ! But I did a fair bit research regarding importing a rib and that was told to me on a couple of occasions. I was looking at buying an ex-US navy rib off a guy called Todd, from a place called rhibunlimited, near long beach California. He said that he hadn't heard of the surplus gear staying in the US thing. So maybe it can only be sold from the govt. to a citizen, then that person can sell it to whoever they want! Anyway check out Rhibsunlimited.com. He had quite a few 7.3 m ribs. All cummins inboard diesels. Spoke to a couple of guys that had imported boats. One of them said he had an ok experience and one guy said try to find one in oz before you go down that road. I was lucky enough to find an ex Australian navy Zodiac Hurricane 7.3m that had been recreationalised and new tubes for under $50k. Saw one on eBay about 2.5 years ago, hull only , for starting price of $20k, so they are around. All the best mate, Todd. By the way I'm in Queensland, Australia and a little obsessed with ribs also.

I think Troy is regarding the recent Australian Navy rib auctions held online on a website called Graysonline.com.

If you read the original post about " U.S Auctions" and how you might import one. That's what I was responding to my freind.

Seen a variety of these in a wide range of conditions for sale out of San Diego.Everything from ready to go to ones, to ones that have been used for target practise !
Unfortunately seen many of the services (coastguard ) etc , cut out of the tubes, any labelling or ID marks, rendering the tubes useless without extensive repair.
Trailers also usually trashed and so not a straightforward tow away.
Also I have also seen the "no export" disclaimers on most of these.
cheers Dal
