007 Ribs?

Well, the new Bond film launches today over here. I have seen a couple of trailers and of course there is the mandatory boat chase sequence.

I noticed some serious looking ribs in the trailers, but just brief glimpses of course.

Has anyone seen the flic? What are the boats?

Good on them - nothing wrong with leveraging everything you can to drum up a bit of business in the current climate.

That's going to get expensive if they plan on blowing up a few boats on every trip!

Damn right!

Spotted a chance to get national publicity for free and took it, even better when the same article is repeated 3 times.

Plus the camera crew and reporter wouldn't be complaining either. Wazzing about the Thames.

Think one of them had a 150hp outboard but as we were sat at the front (big mistake) we couldn't make out what the fook was going on during the action scenes... it was just one big blur

There's a limit of 8 kph (yes, kph, not knots or mph...) upstream of Wandsworth bridge, but downstream there is no limit

There was an Avon Adventure on ebay a few months ago, which had been previously painted black for film use. A photo of it with most of the paint removed, appeared in the infamous Portishead lifeboat thread:

Yep, definetly clocked an Avon badge and a Yam 150 - both were mentioned in the "thanks to" section of the titles.

I suppose if nothing else it proves ribs aren't totally indestructable!!!!

pretty sure it's 8kts upstream of wandsworth and the creeks apart from damage to people and property etc... 5kph you wouldn't make way against a decent tide..

Are you saying the limit is Speed Over Water?

aha, i only really know the tidal thames bit, and i'm fairly sure 8kts, through the water. Makes sense as otherwise you'd be semi planing going against the tide but only doing 8 kts, or wouldn't have (much) steerage if going with the tide.
rowing coaches apparently have an exemption tho.

have just had a look on google and it seems the non tidal thames is actually 8kph ground speed - how very confusing!

so both of us are right, isn't that nice.
