Been following this thread with interest - sorry to hear the news regards the engine. If it doesn't rain it pours!

See what comes up on the used engine front. I've posted you a link to what could be a suitable engine.

Thanks gents for all the help and links, going to need to recoup some money and find a bit more before making a decision on where we go.

An update.

Found another engine, not quite as old but so far (touches wood) its pretty strong. The last couple of outing have been good, no problems.

Anyway, its come a long way...

New seat and backrest...

We have a few jobs to do this winter, one will be making these two match...

We are also going to add an elephants trunk, the original deck drain holes are worse than useless.

Been busy with the Yamaha 75, it's been getting a touch of tlc.

The paint on the leg and cowl didn't match, the electrics were a little tired and there were a few other niggles that required some attention. So far its been stripped, cleaned and parts repainted including the powerhead, leg, lower unit, yoke, starter, choke solenoid and a couple of other bits. New stainless braided fuel lines, new reed block gasket, carb gaskets, vacuum pipes, stat, and stat gasket.

A couple of pictures....

Just need to sort the cowl now.

The new paint just needs a cut and polish but il do that when I do the hood so they match.

It'll be a shame to put it on a boat now!

It'll be sharper when I've knocked it back with some 1500 grit and polished back up.

Sadly the iPhone pics don't do it justice.

The paint isn't arcrylic 2pk. We came to the conclusion that an engine of this age isn't worth the expenditure.

I think it's a nitro acrylic.

When we started it a week ago the tell tale was poor to non existent, the impeller, cup and wear plate looked ok, first thought was a blockage. I put the hose on the water pipe that goes up into the engine and turned it on, tell tale was pissing out no bother. Installed a whole new pump and its now tip top.

Ready for the water.

Very nice job!

One question for those that done this on newer SR's. Does the layout on the transom look the same also on newer models of 5.4 ?

I mean the spots marked with arrows on the picture, is there always GRP between the plywood and the tube?
Think i seen somewhere a picture where i looked like that on the upper part of transom there was no GRP covering the end of the plywood, but maybe I remember wrong.
