There are different levels of services. Seller's idea of a service could have been changing the sparks and gear oil. Any paperwork to substantiate the claim it was fully serviced and exactly what was done?

If it was cutting out - would it fire at all (any hint it was about to start?) could be any number of things, fuel pump, tank vented okay, dirty carbs (although that would have shown itself in running rough), damaged HT leads or coils, impeller or thermostat changed?

Get it checked out properly.

never has a more true reply been posted.

every outboard sold has always just had a service and most outboards have less than 300 hours and have never been in the sea as well!
