1998 Zodiac 470 - Pros / Cons?

I'm looking at buying a used boat, is there any Cons regarding this model? I haven't seen a 470 mentioned anywhere on Zodiacs official website.

Welcome to the forum.

Zodiac are always changing the names of the boats, 470, 9-man Pro, now Pro 500. Basically polyester or GRP hull construction, mid V hull, slide on tubes using unique hull rail system, normally thermostat-bonded PVC (Stongan Doutex fabric) but latest models are available in neoprene or hypalon. Would suit 60hp.

Cons: PVC tubes from this age of boat will be on the way out if it's been out in all weathers. On a positive, you can buy a new tube kit, but Zodiac is expensive, but will transform the boat. The hull lets down these boats. Fine for calm waters, but once the wind gets up it will slap, that's my experience.

Pros: Zodiac have huge range of accessories and dealer network so you can fit new console, bench seat or configure it based on what you want to do. It's a relatively lightweight boat, so you could power it with 40hp, however it will be lack-lustre if your 3 to 4-up on board, so look to fit something based on the maximum transom rating. PVC repairs are straight forward with right ambient temperatures, preparation and 2-part glue if you're meticulous in how you approach it. Easy to tow. These boats still look good if well maintained.

This is the boat I'm looking at, says it has a 75HP motor. Do you think it's a good buy?

I believe that is overpowered as rating on it should be 50hp. New tubes are cheap for that model compared to most others. Zodiac does not keep older models on their site once they change them.

Seems expensive for what it is, but most of that is tied up in the engine.

Quick search, so it does seem over-powered as per cgoing's comment
Boat: 1998 Zodiac of North America Pro II 470

The seating layout looks more suited for lakes, than the open sea. Depends very much what you're planning to use it for.

I will ask the seller for the boat plate to show what engine it is rated for.
The pricing is in Canadian dollars so it may see high.

I converted it to GBP, still seems high! Come Brexit - it will probably seem like a bargain!
