2008 90hp Etec - purchase advice

Hi I'm thinking of buying a 90 hp etc 2008 model. Can anyone advise on what to look out for and what they are like to maintain. Many thanks in advance. Nigel

Very easy to maintain, not much to do to them tbh. If it's an 09 model it should have had 2 services depending on hours. It's coming up to its 3rd service. I'd check the gearbox oil for water ingress, remove the prop & check the shaft seal for leaks & fishing line. Start her up & check the telltale. Check the overall condition of the powerhead for corrosion, hose leaks etc. She should start first turn. If it's at a dealer, ask to see a printout & check for fault codes.

Oops 08, misread the title. Same still applies. Servicing is 3 years or 300 hours. Should be no more than a couple of hundred quid for that engine. Where are you in the country?

They're very fussy about their 12v supply - use good connections on the battery and make sure they're nipped up tight. They tend to blow Engine Management Modules otherwise

Make sure you know what oil it is programmed for. The mechanic has to go into The computer are switch the program if you want to run their full synthetic or the opposite if it is already programmed for the XD100 and you want to run anything else.

What would you recommend to use as I only really use our Rib on holiday in Scotland.

The only downfall to having it programmed for XD 100
Is that it is the only oil you can use once that is done. If it is programmed for XD 100 and you use regular two strike oil the motor will not be lubricated well enough. As long as you plan ahead and keep done on hand you are fine.
