2008 Scorpion Delaminated Fuel Tank

Hi,

My 2008 Suzuki will basically stop / run out of fuel if driven over 4,800rpm.

I’ve ran the engine on an external tank and it’s fine.

Today I inspected the fuel tank and found this, I’m guessing it’s the delaminated GRP fuel tank ?

Has anyone had this ? I’m guessing it’s time for a new fuel tank !? Click image for larger version

Drain the tank and clean as much out as you can, I think that inspection hatch is at the back of the tank so make sure the front of the boat is raised so the fibreglass goes to the back of the tank.

Fit a metal gauze/mesh filter to the bottom of your fuel pick up pipe and that should be end of your issues and you should get many more years out your tank.

Scorpion tanks should be fuel safe derakane. I have recently heard of one with a new stainless tank though.

Derekane tanks are very capable and my own research states it will survive ethanol, however it needs to be cured at a higher temperature. Hopefully Scorpion did that.

I agree, fit pickup gauze and see how it goes. There are delaminated scorpions so it might be the worst scenario but maybe a few crap bits left over from the lower deck to hull sandwich and muck used to join them.

Thanks both, I’ve spoken to Scorpion, they have advised the same in terms of cleaning and are sending me a custom filter to attach to the pick up [emoji1303]🤞🏻

The tanks were made in two bits. The hull, then a bog of resin filler glued a roof on. As a consequence you could possibly get deposits. The hull and deck join is similar.

If you get fuel in the bilge, water in fuel or very orange fuel you might need to reconsider. Get some decent water fuel separators too and replace them often.
