33c throttle cable Tohatsu

Hi
Just a simple question for some - I have a MFS30C brand new and ordered 33C throttle and gear cable - one end has pre-fitted end for remote connection and the other threaded for OEM plastic connector - so I fitted in situ in my drive - when in water today I started and she ran far too fast - remove cowl and take off connector - throttle flips back to a natural 'idle' and is quite clearly where it should be . so now my connector is about 2.5 inches too short - how do I address this as there is no extra thread to lengthen the plastic OEM connector - cannot move cable closer as it is fitted in the retaining gland at entrance to engine - 2 options - do something at remote end or do the 2 ends of the cable get 'bigger' the longer the cable you buy - the distance between remote and engine is at least 3 feet less than the length of the cable
TIA
