hello

i used polymarine grey paint, i went over all the tubes with 80 gritt paper, then i cleaned the tubes with acetone,
the paint is expensive and took 2 tins to paint a 4m boat but looks great! to paint the tubes we used a normal paint brush (take care with the bristles falling out!)

here are some photos of the boat being painted

hope this helps

Looks great!

Didn’t know you could paint the tubes. I take it the paint is flexible so it doesn’t crack if the tubes loose pressure?

erm no not quite iv seen one that had been painted in the past and it didn't look good was peeling around the rubbing strake and had cracked all over. (not to say it had been prepped as well as yours of course ). interesting work pattern tho grinding the floor halfway through painting the tubes .

I don't think that paint will crack, it's liquid rubber special for tubes: pvc or hypalon.
Dit some research and seen one done with this paint (one year old rib!!)
It was prayed on and if you dont know u dont see it's painted.

4M Humber Rib Project

Seems fine to me, good job and absolutely fine to experiment on an old small rib. From what I hear on the flexi paint it’s not that it cracks, rather it may start to peel. I have heard peeling can start from two years from application - in that situation I don’t know if you can just top up the edges that are peeling?? Obviously if it was a high value rib you would probably just have replaced the tubes.

You taking it on the water for tests soon?

I think if you don’t mind the cost for something that might last only a couple of years then painting is an option as a last resort knowing that when/if it starts to peel and look shabby the next step is likely a retube.
