Certainly a cheap boat. Is it a Scorpion then Barry?
I'm always wary when a sale description starts with the words "Here we have a...."

Looks like a good buy to me.
Dont forget South Coast RIBs (now Scorpion) started out fitted out BWM (Blue Water Marine) hulls, so I'm thinking this might be a Deep Sea 18 "DS18" hull with different tubes???

might be worth a look on the inside face of the transom for a spec plate. My Avon D5.6 has a small alloy plate fixed beneath the engine steering linkage. It identifies the make, model engine max. size and weight carrying capacity etc.
Hope she proves to be a good buy for you..enjoy!

think Daniel maybe onto something there.
i don't think its a deep sea 18 at as the hull profile on the bow was different and had a sort of reverse chine up at the bow.
im not sure Scorpion made any 5.3m boats but will stand corrected.
Hightower had a South Coast Ribs BWM in the past so maybe able to assist. there are some old pictures of my first DS18 on here somewhere too. will look them out..

It's a Tornado 5.3 mtr, the Console and Hull shape give it away,...... plus the Tube is sectional rather than curved as they are/were on the BWM's.

thnx ribbraff, all you say seems to make sense tube has been made in sections, have checked them, all seem good, so i think we can now say its a tornado ! so is that good or bad ? whats the reputation on said ribs by bwm ?

Yep, definately Tornado 5.3 retubed in hypalon. I used to own a bwm 18, hull cracked in a force 5! Then I got a south coast rib, better lay-up, nice n beamy but due to semi-v used to slam a bit too much? looks like you got a nice boat there pal.

Tornado Tubes were originally built in PVC and would more than likely have been Orange to match the hull. Later Tornado's were made PU.
It looks like they are Hypalon which will last longer if made properly. The 5.3 Hull is pretty good, good heavy lay-up, I have seen quite a few come in for retube which have lost the pigmentation in the Gel Coat, a lot less beamy than it's slightly bigger Brother the 5.5 which is a different Hull altogether.
Some people have mentioned that the 5.3 had Phantom Hull origins.

@ barry .. Well if its a retube from the original spec in Hypalon you should be ok then, but if its the old ones, or painted ones .. look out

well the the rib is home ! now i can see all the bits that i didnt see the first time round ! floors got a crack in it , which in all fairness i was told about, got a good repair man for that hes mustard with the glass n resin seen his work b4 on mangled jet skis, the tubes are ok and are hypalon, unfortunately alot of wear on both rear ends underside ! with patches on patches,so il be looking to get a major strip n repair anybody know of a good repair man in essex ? although do have friends in southhampton so could possibly have a long wkend with a repair squeezed in !! other than that im itchin to get in the drink !!!! must be patient and get the repairs done first !! do not want to be saluting and knee deep if you know what i mean !!
