5000 Series Aluminium Hulls.

Hi. I am currently building an Aluminium 22ft fast fisher which is progressing very well. I am now thinking about building Aluminium bespoke hulls for ribs, I have a contact who will make the tubes to suit, please let me know your thoughts on whether there would be a demand for this? Many thanks. Kev.

I think price would be the sticking point for your average buyer. Must be very difficult to compete against grp hulls taken from a mould. I'm very interested in the subject of ali hulls as I'm hoping to build one of my own in the future. Would you be using an existing hardboat or rib hull design or something new?

I for one would be very interested in seeing the results of such a build!

There was a demand here, before I bought mine...

As has been said, plate alloy boats are pricey, but the reduction in weight and increase in strength is worth it, IMO.

Price may be an issue. However, I think you will be looking at 4/5K upwards starting at 16ft . I recognise that that grp hulls are perfect as they are made from a mould, the ali hulls would be formed on a jig to prevent distortion. The design would be taken off a rib but modifications could be designed into the build. They will look amazing, especially with a polished finish! I am based in Lymington & I'm considering making these soon. Kev
