To be fair, 15 grand would get you a bare hull from most of the UK manufacturers

Like you say, things must have changed in your absence. [emoji6]I've dived off many a Humber, dive clubs loved them because they were cheap compared to the likes of Delta & Chinhook. They were built to a budget & it showed. See previous comments regarding fit out, both by the factory & end users. My comment about occupying the budget end of the UK built market stands, it isn't an insult, just fact. I don't see why you should take exception, unless it's a case of "if the cap fits"

Off to their factory next few weeks...I'll let you know if things have changed...but having been round the boat show recently, was shocked by the prices for "leisure" RIBs , obviously built in "places of cheap labour" yet punters still being charges " Western" prices....shocking.

Tell 'em to stop strapping over the tubes when they send 'em out of the factory [emoji6]
I agree re. The "leisure" RIBs on the market, maybe it's a case of more money than sense. Although Humber wouldn't be my first choice, I'd take one over a Chinese build any day.

Humber Quality
Hi All, I am looking at a Humber to replace my Zodiac - just looking for something bigger than what we have currently. I have found one that is a couple of year old and looks OK (low hours etc - but has been left outdoors with only partial cover). From the comments here - it sounds like there are broader concerns on Humber fit out with it being somewhat patchy. Interesting to see the comments here on that.
My inspection of the boat found similar issues but all that can be relatively easily remedied. For example they used 1.25 inch long pointed screws in the seats so when you sit down you can feel the screw coming through the cushion.... simple fix to replace the screws with same diameter shorter square head ones, but does this hide wider issues inside the hull in areas I cannot see so easily??
Who on here has had a Humber now for 3-4 years - Would you buy another one??
What is the updated view on Humber? They made some attractive (to me) leisure boats before (around 2010-2015) Is the view they are a good boat? or not worth the hassle or the money and best avoided?
The one I have found requires trailer and covers to be made etc so we will already be £5-6k extra out of pocket as soon as we buy it.
In a 3 year old low hours Humber - am I buying a good boat at a fair price, that is ultimately solidly built with good tubes and good hull and just needs some tidy up (which is what I am hoping for) Or are they built very poorly, and under the surface pretty shoddy build quality and best avoided....
Thanks
Jonathan

I'd broadly lump them in with the Zodiac leisure boats. They are built to a price point.

That sounds odd. Surely you can get a nice trailer and decent cover for about half that without too much effort?

depends what you are paying!

the only serious issue I recall anyone posting here was a cracked transom, which humber did a bit of a poor job repairing. Other than that its silly stuff like using self tappers where they don't need to, not having quite the attention to detail you might expect, and some criticism of the rear tube seam design.
None of that is bad enough to say no way to all humbers regardless of price.

6.3 ocean pro for 8yrs - no issues. Just had it retubed as it’s left on a mooring. They’re basic boats with a tested good seaworthy hull. If you want more spangles or perfect finish, you pay more wonga.

Boat was a special build for the Southampton boat show in 2014 so slightly higher spec than many Humbers and hull is excellent on the water. Powered by a Suzuki 225 with just 30 hours on it from new so looking good :-) thanks again for all advice and guidance everyone

JT enjoy your trip to Ireland with your new toy
When you get back don’t forget we need to test whether that Humber is a proper “bulldozer”!
Enjoy your holiday
