A-Frame for SR4 - should I sell it ??

I should probably do a bit more research into this one but just to gather opinions for now.

My lovely husband-to-be is keen to buy a house, and the one we've been looking at does have a suitable garage for the SR4, but it's slightly too low to fit in complete with A-frame. To keep him happy I've now discovered it is actually quite easy to remove the A-frame, so this has been done.

As I'm quite lazy (didn't event get around to going out to play today), I'm not realistically going to be replacing it for every trip out, whether we buy the house or not. So the question is, should I stick it on Ebay now and get over it, or will it make much difference to the value of the boat when I want to sell it & buy something bigger ??

I know its not the most exciting question but I remember there being a few discussions previously about getting the right frame & so on, so thought someone might have thoughts. Someone on Ebay does seem to be making them for about £150 which might not help. I've attached some pictures although will try and get better ones before the Ebay moment.

(For some reason he wasn't keen on my preferred solution, which was to use the house deposit to buy a bigger boat & keep it on a mooring so we don't have to worry about garage space.....)

if height is issue, get it modified so it hinges up and down!

Yep, or drops into a tube so it's a 10 second job to remove like the military ones.

I wouldn't get rid of it-you'll regret not having anywhere for nav lights.

I think he has his prorities wrong

Chop it. I kept ours as low as poss., there's about 25mm clearance when fully trimmed. This reduced leverage w/boarding and looks better. SRs with high A frames look out of proportion and slightly daft imv. My man would chop it for you in Sept.

Lift the bow/front of the trailer when you put it away ..... you can get a 3-4 inch drop in height at the top of the a-frame !

It's not quite enough even with that unfortunately (have to do that at the moment!) .... I have considered hinging or chopping but then wonder if I'm over complicating things. It does look cool & is a handy thing to have... but do I really want to go out at night anyway ? Or is it like cars where you're meant to have lights even during the day (I probably should know the answer to that but not sure I do) ?

You could carry a set of battery powered emergency nav lights and duct tape them to the console if/when they were needed.

Forget what everyone else is saying about it being useful and adding value etc. And sell it to me. I don't have a garage so I won't have a problem... ;-)

Course the other problem then is how much is it worth... ? If I did sell it to someone on here I want them to get a good deal, but it's also a small step towards saving up for a new boat ....

And would it look better on Glenn's...?

I'd bet you'll make more money for your boat if it's got an A-frame and nav lights on...

Do you think Shaz boat including A-frame and lights = more money than Shaz boat (without it) + sensible price for A-frame and lights (to Glen or on ebay).

I'd have thought most people underestimate the value of that so (and I don't know Shaz's boat at all) would offer no more than £100 extra for a SR4 with an a-frame with lights on, than the bare boat. In reality even a second hand a-frame with working lights, wired on should fetch at least that on ebay - and potentially more depending on condition/style/range of boats it will fit etc.

Ooh well said Polwart... very interested in answers to that. I know its only likely to be about £100 or so difference, but as the advert says, every little helps ....
