Rayglass Buys Aquapro Raider
May 13, 2005
Rayglass Boats has purchased the production tooling and all necessary moulds of the Aquapro Raider range of RIBs
Previously built by Auckland based Aquapro International – which has now closed its NZ construction facility – Rayglass will continue to market a full range of Raider RIBs, probably under the Rayglass Raider branding as a ‘budget’ version of its currently highly successful Rayglass Protector range.
The two brands will be kept distinctively different, although construction and marketing will be all centralised at Rayglass Boats’ Auckland factory.
Rayglass Boats’ Managing Director Tony Hembrow says he sees the purchase as a strategic move for the company. “We will ascertain which of the Raider models are suitable to continue with and the ones that we can successfully market in conjunction with our current Protector range”.
“The plan at this stage is to reintroduce the Raiders as entry level inflatable cabin boats, which will be lower spec’d than the Protectors and while still built to a very high standard, not to the same internationally recognised marine construction classifications of all our Protector boats”.
Tony is the first to admit that the inflatable cabin boat market is not an easy one world-wide although he is confident that the excellent reputation of the Protector, will rub off on to the Raider range and bolster early sales.
In fact, within a few days of purchasing the moulds Rayglass was receiving phone calls from both local and international dealers keen to continue with the Raider brand and with Rayglass.
The Raider range comprises seven models from the 6.05 centre console through to the 14m enclosed cabin walkaround. The mid range 790 and 900 Raiders with their enclosed cabin hardtops are very similar to the Rayglass Protector in styling. The Raider range has been sold throughout the world, with the 790 and 900 being two of the most successful models.
