Aaaaaaaawesome day
Forgive the excitement . Launched the Ribtec 585 in Teignmouth today , freezing cold Easterly, the river mouth was a total mess with breakers everywhere , 7 kts of spring tide pushing 2 meters plus breakers over the bar , nosed out into the fray with the mighty 115hp chugging , up the front of a big roller , bit more gas , the mighty 115 purrs , up and over a cliff and smoothly down into hole you could park a bus in , Ribtec nose up and looking for the next. Out into the channel and right across the bay to Torquay. Beamers coming in at 2M but steady , Ribtec straight across the lot . Turn back and even more of a mess , boat went wherever i shoved it , engine just kept purring. Pulled into the river and hit 39kts along to the Cellars for a pint. Awesome boat . Thanks to Tim M and Wolf Rock. Just got to wait to see the Chiefs beat Stade Francais for the perfect day !!!!!!!!!!

Doh , Chief's lost , shame . It was close though and the ref missed so much offside i thought i was watching the game backwards , still it looks like we are Heineken Cup next year and the weather looks better tomorrow , just that 1.40 a litre problem to get round .....

Hi Viking,
Good to see you getting such a buzz out of your boat and it made me wonder if it just might be my old Ribtec 585 as I put a Yamaha F115 on it a couple of years before I sold it to a guy called Spud on here back in 2001. Any chance of a picture ?
It would be great if it was, because I was brung up in Newton Abbot

Chiefs were robbed. They hammered chunks out of Stade, a decent Ref may've seen a different result.
The Chief's performances and progression, since joining the premiership, have been nothing short of astounding.

Mollers , yes , and yes again . that ref is always big team biased but in a way it's not too bas as they really need to focus on Aviva and HC quali , then we can blast off to somewhere for a jolly weekend ....

Hi Viking,
Live in Western Australia these days and in many areas, it is 15 years behind the times, the exception being the big mining companies that are investing $$$billions to ravage the Pilbara.
As kids, my brother and I were always down the Teign, fishing (never caught a bloody thing) or exploring (always came back filthy). We used to bunk in to the stock car racing at the racecourse by climbing up on the railway bridges and straddling our way across.
I used to like my 585, so much so that I commissioned a 7.4 from Tim Wilks. The only real issue that I had with it was water ingress between the hull and the deck, which could affect the handling significantly if the boat was afloat for an extended period. I believe this problem was addressed by Ribtec in later models.
I did the Scillies one year with Brian Elliot and Mike Garside and was very impressed with the 585's handling in a building following sea from the Lizzard up to Plymouth. The F115 had just enough power to get up to the top of the wave before the exhilarating run down the other side and then powering off before the bow buried itself. We got back inside the Sound and the steering let go 300m from QAB. It could have been very different if we were unable to control the boat 90 minutes earlier.....

Bitten , that trip sounds like fun , I'm hoping to get over to the Channel Islands this summer if time allows. I kinew a Tony Garside a while back , must be related.
re the boat . I have read on here about ingress between hulls , when i got mine and pulled the bung there was a nice air rush suggesting some pressure in the void , since changing the seats and consuls i don't get the air rush anymore so i'm guessing there's a an old screw hole that needs filling thru the deck, gonna pump some water in to the bung hole and hopefully find it

My Sis lives in Teignmouth. I'm tempted to fly up in the boat sometime soon.
