ABC Power marine, Gallows Point

Hi all, I'm in a bit of dilemma and hoped someone had some guidance!

Last 2 years our boat has been berthed at Conwy Marina. Contract is now up and I don't think I'm renewing for a few reasons, main one being it's getting bl00dy expensive!

I've brought the boat home for now but it really takes up too much driveway space so I've been looking around and wondered about ABC.

Their storage fee is half the price and much more flexible in terms of cancellation, as another option is that we may sell her this year and don't want to be stuck with a long term contract. Also find the gate opening times restrictive (but obviously understand why they are what they are!)

Do any of you guys use ABC? I like the idea of being able to self launch for free, but also having the option of their tractor launch/recovery for a fee. One thing that's not clear though, their website says tractor launch at all states of tide, but then elsewhere it says the slipway is available HW+/-3hrs. Does this mean you will have to use the tractor outside this window?

Anyone used their toilets/showers? The Mrs in particular likes a shower after a day in the water before we head home, but in her words "I aren't using some filthy showers behind a petrol station!"

And perhaps most important of all - where's the nearest pub for some post-water relaxation?!!

As you can probably tell, I'm not really familiar with that part of Anglesey, being from West Yorkshire!

Cheers gang 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I had my old boat at ABC marine for a number of years. We did not part on good terms, but I won't go in to that here as its not really relevant to your query.

The answer to your question is that the slipway is available HW+/-3hrs so if you are using your vehicle, you are limited to those times. They will however launch and recover you off the beach at any sate of tide using their tractor. That used to be £25 for launch and recovery, but I've not been there for 5 years.

There's plenty of depth in the channel off the point for a tractor launch even at low tide, but the current runs fierce though there, so you need to be half decent at crabbing the boat back on the the trailer. Trailer poles help enormously. No real issue with the current off the slipway as it is much more protected.

Shower block was nice when I was last there.

Oh and plenty of pubs nearby, within walking distance in and around Beaumaris.

Thanks Kristoff, appreciate the "diplomatic" response! Yeah, conscious of the current up the channel, might be best to aim for a slack water return around LW!

You soon become a dab hand at pointing the bow upstream and crabbing in, before gunning it onto the trailer. If you can recover there you can recover anywhere. There was a few occasions I cocked it right up and ended up in the water pushing it on to avoid jack-knifing the boat across the trailer.

Actually, I used to launch from White Cottage with Chris Seddons tractor - I imagine ABC will be similar, especially if waiting for the tractor to become free - little bit of throttle needed just to stand still!
