Advice on Rib/Outboard

Hi

I am thinking if buying the following combination
3D Ultralight 290 Rib plus Honda 20hp

I am going to use it on the tidal thames, mainly as a tender for my boat, but also for zipping about.

I needed something small and light enough to go on my davits, this comes in at 77kg

I am going for a bigger engine than the 3d rib is rated for, but the 15hp Honda which it is rated for is the same weight and size as the 20hp, so not sure if this will be a problem

Any thoughts? Any better alternatives engine or boat

I have also tried to source second hand options, but seems just hard to get a good value second hand option compared to what it costs news.

Thanks for your feedback

OK so while its hanging off your davits the 20HP will make no difference.

When the equivalent of 20 horses are pulling against the transom instead of 16 do you not think that will matter? Buying new and instantly invalidating warranty?

What does "zipping about" cover? How many people? How far? Towing anything?

Will you launch it at all or once its in the water is it living on your davits?

If you're thinking of going for an engine bigger than your boat is rated for by the manufacturer you might want to run it past your intended insurers first.

thanks for the reply, zipping about means short 1 mile trips up and down the river with 2 people and child. No towing.

Was not sure what impact having a 20 on a 15 rated boat would have, was keen to get as powerful an engine due to the tides on the tidal thames, but if the extra power will be a problem on the transform then goof to hear, so i can change my decision to a 15hp

2 people and a child....in that little thing???? it is very small internally for a 2.9m. probably because of the extra tube at back for the 15hp weight. looks more like a "normal" 2.4 SIB to me size wise inside???

i think you need a rethink myself bud, hopefully someone else can suggest something.

20hp would be suicidal on that...want a shot!

Why not package HIGHFIELD 360 + HONDA BF20.
It is a minimum for 20 HP for Classic Range I think.
And it is 77 kg only !!!

CL360

In Poland smallest RIB for 20 HP is sportis 380 (3,8m)

Thanks for the replies, recommendations would be great. This is intended to be a tender for my bigger boat, and to run short distances, for example Kew to Richmond. Please make some suggestions
