I was thinking of taking the kids to Cornwall next week - the weather looks good so I will be fitting the chid seats. Does anyone have any idea as to how this will affect the petrol consumption on the car? And should I consider fitting restraining belts? The young un is a bit feisty - but he usually stays sitting if i tell im!
Any advice accepted.

Some of you are very harsh ......
I can see his view point if trying to compare the progress you'd make in a kayak then to a small RIB which would travel 4 times quicker .....
If you read the marketing stuff about small RIBS they do tend to push a view they are all conquering....

After a couple of hours hanging onto the tiller in the salty stuff I've usually had enough for the day . The thought of going that sort of distance would fill me with horror personally in a small boat.
Then again 15 to 30 miles hanging onto the wheel in the hardboat I'm ready for a coffee & a cigar...

Harsh, I thought that as well at first, then I did some searching via google on what other posts the person has submitted and my opinion has changed completely. He has upset a lot of people on a regular basis, even seems to go out of his way to do so.

That photo shows your vehicle to be totally unsuitable. Therefore I'd suggest waiting for a rainy day and going then! And don't restrain the kids, just ask them to hold on if it gets a bit bumpy!
PS. Send us a postcard!
As for the OP - I'm not sure whether he's just set in his ways and unresponsive to (most) advice, or whether he's here to cause an argument. Either way it was quite a funny post to read!

So he does, including this gem (my bold italics):
Quote:
Moan, moan, moan. Having kayaked from Boscombe to Dartmouth and back in the summer, I stopped at nearly every coastal town. Bournemouth was as good in it's own way as any of the rest. Anyone with an smidgen of common sense knows to buy their food in town before they hit the beach.

There is a lot worse than that, the same person tells people their mates are stupid, tells others to shut up and moans about countless articles in the press. What he doesn't realise is the bournemouth echo is part of another news group so his comments get spread all round the country.
He also seems to think the RNLI are there for when people do risky things as a safety blanket. Which they are not, if you think something is going to be risky then dont do it in my opinion.
And he is aware of the sea dangers round parts of the dorset coast as he states in some posts so why event think about this trip which sparked all this off.
If you want a laugh do a search on google for the following; and use the "quote" marks.
“simcal” kayak
“simcal” Bournemouth
“simcal”
Im bored with this thread now, maybe he is a fine chap, maybe we are being too harsh. He aint my bag of tea thats for certain going on the posts.
LOL

Simcal is even registered with the Guardian. Genuinely surprised with that. Thought he was more a Daily Mail man myself.
Some interesting reading... scroll through comments.

I did have something to raise a smile I was just about to post, and then saw this so will not do so (scroll down) as seems to fit....
Clinical depression - NHS Choices
Of course may not be the same person, or it may just be more attention seeking.... Either way a troubled person I feel so I'll leave it there.
Hopefully he'll reflect that a different approach may help him get a more supportive response from others.

The age isn't right, but hey, we're all 21
There are billions of us on the planet. We have to rub shoulders a bit and we need to learn how to be nice to each other. RIBnet works because most members have a bit of manners, even the ones from Yorkshire. So far as I can see, every six months or so, someone wanders in here thinking they can "vent" and abuse the hospitality...
Nothing could be further from the truth

Hey - I'm from Yorkshire.
And as they say:
You can always tell a Yorkshireman,
But you can never tell him much
PS that's a badge of honour where I come from

Holy crap. I've just read through this thread and have very mixed emotions. Is he taking the proverbial? Trolling? Are we being harsh as he is has issues that when put in this medium, instigate over responses? I just don't know..... What I do know is the trip was a disaster waiting to happen, yet despite any view on his comments, members comments or his perception of then, he is now getting it delivered. Good result.
I'd possibly argue though that the mods sometimes need to be careful of the sarcasm they post when it was plainly clear a few replies in, prior to the quoted post that there was something a miss...
