Advise required

Some help please, after years of watching boats coming and going at Salcombe I'm now ready to take the plunge and buy a rib but have no idea what to go for, I've been looking for a few months and still none the wiser. I would like a rib to be able to carry up to 4 persons, be well made, hold its price incase I need to upgrade later, oh, and be fast, finally got the motorbike thing out of my system so will require an adrenalin fix every now and again. quite taken by the Ribcraft 5.3/5.85. Any advise on boat/engine would really help

Paul

Hi Paul, good decision!
Can we have a bit more info, i.e. new or secondhand and an idea of budget would be good, you mention a 5.85 Ribcraft, can't go far wrong there.

I can recommend a Mercury OptiMax 135.

Lots of grunt, sounds great, comes with a stainless steel prop, makes a nice sound, V6, comes with the SmartCraft readouts.

Ribcraft 5.85 or a Humber Ocean-Pro 5.5 or 6m would be my choice, with a Suzuki DF140 (or DF150 would be even better). Good value new and very sought after when you come to upgrade!!

Hi Kernow, new or as new, started looking at about 10k, then 15k, but looks like being nearer 20k. I've fallen for the all white 5.85 on Ribcraft's video clip

Hi Paul - Ribeye's head office is not far from salcombe (in Dartmouth) - this is arguably a very pretty rib and fits your description...

for about 20k you could have a brand new one of these with all the bits... (get hold of John Wood, head of sales @ Dartmouth - he's a great guy and will do you a good deal I'm sure!)

Ribeyes customer service, build quality is superb in my experience - the hulls have been designed for use in UK waters (choppy!) and have an extra deep V so give a very safe, predictible and smooth ride - I will be buying again! - my Ribeye is one of the few items I have bought I can say that about!
