AIS APP called mAIS for Iphone. Works like a Tracker

I just loaded this new app onto my phone and used it last weekend for a trip to Alderney and back. Great results no missing parts of the voyage.

I have always been disappointing by the coastal coverage of AIS using class B transponders round the UK, as the results are very varied depending on how many and how good the shore based receivers are that transmit the information to the likes of marinetraffic.com

This new FREE app is great, it takes your location, speed, & direction information from your phone, you type in your vessel MMSI & details, then when you are in range of cellular data / wifi /3G the info is passed onto the marinetraffic.com website. Turn the app on when you leave port, turn it off when you arrive. Very simple.

This is not AIS, other vessels in your locality wont see your position, but anyone looking on the marrinetraffic.com website can see it historically, so really good when round doing a Round Ireland or Round Britain voyage and having a live map.

For further details see mAIS - iAIS for Marine Traffic - Report the position of a vessel using a mobile smart phone on board
or https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iais...0310?ls=1&mt=8

I use this app, reset my iPhone and now can't sign in! Anyone still using it?

My user name and password works fine on the websites

Are you on EE? They've had data issues all day, you can look to have a good signal but are not actually connected.

If you register with MarineTraffic, not only can you enter details / pictures of your boat but you can set up watches to alert when your boat (or any others) leaves / returns to selected ports; these are sent as an e-mail.

It seems to work well. When leaving/returning to Littlehampton I usually receive the email on my phone as I leave/return to the Arun.

I have a rule in Outlook on my PC at home that forwards these e-mails to my wife - (she does worry!) and it gives her a thirty minute warning that I'll be home.

Set up IFTTT and a wemo switch and you could have the kettle start to boil as you walk through the door.

I gave a 10 min warning last night that I would be home from a 4 day boating trip, so asked for the above and I got a two word text reply.

and it did not include the word yes

And round this corner of the world that is half the problem!

(network dependent, obviously - some are (marginally) better than others!)

I've been trying to get this app working, but it steadfastly refuses to accept the login credentials which work perfectly on the main website!

This is the issue I had, the way I got it to work was populate all the boxes about the boat - from memory MMSI, call sign, sizes then it worked
