Alan Priddy's going sailing!
This is from Alan P's latest press release:
Sir Alec Rose's dream of helping young adults lives on as Alan Priddy announces that 'Lively Lady' will sail around the world again.
In July 1967, Sir Alec Rose set sail alone from Portsmouth on his yacht, 'Lively Lady', at the start of a round the world voyage. That trip captured the imagination of the country and won him and 'Lively Lady' a place in history. Just a year later they returned to a hero's welcome from the people of Portsmouth.
After that trip Sir Alec Rose wanted 'Lively Lady' to spend the rest of her lifetime helping disadvantaged young adults by giving them the opportunity to learn the skills needed to sail and maintain a boat; skills they could take with them and use throughout their lives. With the help of Tony Weeks and The Meridian Trust Association she's been kept on the water ever since, doing just that.
Now, in 2005, Portsmouth adventurer Alan Priddy will follow in the footsteps of his childhood role model, taking 'Lively Lady' around the world again to ensure that she can continue to fulfil Sir Alec Rose's dream for many years to come. This time though, 'Lively Lady' will have a crew of more than just one. This trip will see Alan joined by an ever-changing crew of 50 or more young adults - each of them learning skills and leadership that will be with them for life.
