Ancient SR4 Searider. Do I have a PVC or rubber rubbing strake?

Total noob here so please be gentle!

I tried searching the forum for info on identifying rubbing strake materials but couldn't find anything useful.

Just acquired an ancient Avon SR4 Searider (Serial number 00154) and am about to embark on some repairs/improvements.

1. Can anyone say definitively whether my rubbing strake is PVC or rubber? I've abraded a bit of it (see photo) but am still none the wiser. (As far as I can tell it's the original rubbing strake as applied at the factory all those decades ago.)

2. I'd like to either, remove and replace the rubbing strake, or, glue a slightly wider one over the top of the existing one. What's the best, most sensible option? Is removing the old rubbing strake a total ballache?

3. If the old strake is PVC and I want to overlay a rubber one on top of it, what's the glueing etiquette? A new rubber strake will be wider than the old and so extend on to the hypalon - so two different glue types required?

Appreciate any guidance!

Hypalon....but you have painted Hypalon so that make patching it a little more tricky...but not impossible.

Thanks, fastasfox.

My main concern is rubbing strake material rather than the tube material.

Painted hypalon will definitely require more prep when repairs are required.

So, my original rubbing strake. PVC or rubber?

The strake is stuck on with the same glue..no matter what the material. Search for Hypalon glue...it comes in two parts. Be aware though that postage often cost as much as the glue itself, on account of its flammability.
There are plenty of youtube tutorials on this subject.
Good luck.
