Another engine height thread

Seems like a popular question recently. I mounted my engine on the top hole and the cav plate is sitting 1 1/2" below. The only other boat like mine that I have seen with a single is the 733 in Thailand now. Owned by YNP (did I see the name Yuri somewhere) used to be up in Vancouver BC with a single 300hp etec. They had it in the next hole down so up an inch higher than mine. Any thoughts? Do I go up one hole or two?

Thanks
Jason

Well it's a 250 so I guess I should think about going up at least two holes.

I had performance problems with mine when it was low, all sorted when I moved it up.
Mine is inline with cav plate but others I have seen are slightly higher.
One thing I found is you need to play around with ballast up front or console position after moving outboard.

my boat has never been in the water as an outboard and the console position is fixed, but I can play with ballast if I ever get into the water. I'm just looking for the best guess to get started. Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll go up two holes and see what that gets me.

Surely the best thing for you to do is get the boat in the water to see how it handles prior to making any changes. Or am I missing something ?

Well an 1 1/2" low should not be a good location so I'm just looking for a good starting place and trying to get the best guess possible. I know it's not right as is so running it isn't going to tell me anything new.

This is up two holes. I think this should be a good starting point.

Trimmed out level hat will give you approx 2". Blow the water line

Yep that's very low. Needs to move up at least 2 if not 3 inches.... If that engine is too long for the transom as Nugent suggests then you will need to look at a jack plate to sort out the issue or trading in the engine for a shorter one.

hmm, the old specs that I have seen and the little bit of info I have been able to gather says the 30" leg is the correct motor. I have sent off a few emails trying to get some clarification but it's a challenge finding any first hand info. The boat is spec'd to use 25" motors with twins. I have only seen two or three others with a single on it.

Ok. With the engine trimmed it becomes a bit more apparent. That's an inch low almost exactly. If course my mount looks like this now. I guess I really needed a 27" leg

May be it could help.
Try to have the cavitate plate just over the waterline at WOT or cruise well trimmed, and becarefull with water pressure (If too high the water could flow badly through the intake point above the cavitate plate....).
Do it step by step if raising in holes.
And much depends on the load in the boat (fuel, persons, load....) so be carefull.

looking at your pictures I think you can raise it up perfectly. I should raise up first one hole, but probably could raise up the two holes left.
If you can hold the engine firmly, one way to do it easily is moving the rear height of the trolley with the front jockey wheel.

thanks, I think i'll go up one more before I put it in the water. I have an auto engine hoist that I use so it's just a 15 minute job.
