We were out for the first time yesterday. Near perfect conditions. Stonehaven to Johnshaven (30 mile round trip). No fish - using lures, instead of proper bait.
Came across a pod of dolphins on return leg.
Note to self... stop packing so much kit!

We are on the wate4 all winter
But admittedly it’s really only since mid March that we have been going out regularly. Appropriately dressed it is fine. Lots to see and outstanding scenery.

Its the first year in 9 years I haven't used my rib during winter as the weather has just been so pants this year. After about 4 months no use ive just taken both batteries off the rib to slow charge at home, hopefully back in the water next week.

Nearly ready I hope! I replaced both the wet and dry exhausts on my Ribtec last weekend, having blown the dry one over Christmas/New Year.
Just the gear/throttle control cables to replace now, and then hopefully good to go...

No, lures as in open water. Fish must have been laughing.
East coast is dire right now. Listened on the radio to two commercial fishermen talking about the situation, so they weren't having any luck either.
Aiming to launch further up the coast and hit some wrecks. Great day to be out though.

After the Gurnard's stunning video of Loch Leven I thought this short clip might "reflect" it's occasional less docile nature............

Hoping to head from Largs to Tarbert on the 20th for a weekends diving. How much fuel did you use?

If you know your fuel burn you can figure it out using Google maps as there are 2 ways from Largs to Tarbert, one is quite a bit more but much better (safer and more scenic) route imo (via kyes of bute). If you don't know your fuel burn then maybe 75 litres and fill up at Portavadie on way home if need be and you now know your fuel burn.
I think it is about 33 miles there via Kyles if memory serves and for lunch goto the little cafe where the fishing boats tie up. Also worth stopping in at caladh harbour for a break perhaps, cracking spot...see piccy.
Make sure and call Portavadie before you leave because if you need fuel and they don't have it or are closed then you have a problem. One thing the clyde lacks is easily accessible fuel once you go further west.

35 miles to Tarbert via Kyles. At 25 mph I would burn about 40 litres.

+1
That is....there is no petrol in Tarbert now so it has to be Portavadie or Lochgilphead (High tide or a long walk)
PS if your looking for a good dive site near Tarbert "Big Rock" just at the entrance to Loch Gilp near Inverneil island used to be a cracking site.

We dive Tarbert 2 or 3 times a year but usually off the back of my mates Yacht. This would be our first time up with the rib. We usually dive the garden outside Portavadie or the Margaret Niven in Stonefield bay.

Put the boat on the water on Saturday morning at 8am, went for a little pootle into the Solent but it was so misty I got 150meters off shore and couldn't see the shore. Thought it best to turn around and go back to the mooring.
Went down this morning and took it for a proper blast, it's working just fine after a winter in storage and new petrol.
My modifications to the bilge pump have worked well so there is now less water in the hull which will keep me happy.
All ready to use properly another day.
