Antifoul

Has anybody any idea how long I can leave my boat in the water without having had the hull antifouled?

My plan is to have a berth in a marina on the tidal Thames for about 6 to 8 weeks. (Usually it lives on it's trailer)

The marina has a lock, so there is little water movement, and it will be there for the rest of April and May when the water is still quite cold if that makes any difference.

If it does start getting growth on the hull, is it a simple matter of pressure washing it after lift out, or does the hull get permanently stained?

Many thanks

Tim, we left the club dive boat in Halsar Marina, Gosport a couple of years ago for 4 weeks. EEK! long green weed but worse was the barnicles that started growing. They just laughed when we tried a commerical pressure wash on them. Ended up using a piece of wood to removed them but it was too late and the base of the barnicle was still attached to the boat.

Glad it was a 15 year old boat and not mine.

Pete

Foul

Our rib lives in the marina all year round. We have not antifouled it yet, its in two years, daylight hours is what encourages the growth more than anything else.We lift and scrub often in summer, often we beach it and remove heavy stuff, plastic pot scrubs or nylon scuff pads remove most of the stuff.Using the boat often helps to keep the weed off too.
