any 1 recommend boat insurance
Hi
didn't know best place for this question, but can someone recommend boat insurance company/s that they use and have they been good to you when needed, i have used insuremyboat in the past for a short time, luckily i have never needed to make a claim, but i think like any insurer when it comes to paying out, thats when you need to know they have your back.
cheers Matt

Have used craftinsure for a number of years now. Never had to claim, but found their service to be first class. This is based on launch and retrieve, but they will quote if boat is berthed during a holiday for example. You can login to update specification to policy if required.

I’ve used Euromarine for fifteen years thankfully never had to claim but always found them very easy to deal with.

Porthcawl used for a few years, as normal with insurance get a few quotes and then haggle with one you like. Be sure to include any certs you have for RYA training etc as some will give a discount if you have PB2 or Advanced powerboat etc.

Porthcawl with Euromarine on an agreed value policy Yep
..... One major 'total write off' claim in 2005 and an aux outboard loss in 2016 - both fully paid out with no hassle.
You only know how good they are if you have the misfortune to need to claim. Agreed value cover is quite pricey but well worth it when the brown stuff hits

I use Mercia Marine, agreed value. Very comprehensive policy, wide cruising range.
Whoever you choose, read the small print carefully. I was caught out a long time ago with a policy that excluded damage whilst the boat was "being loaded or unloaded on to its conveyance" I.e not covered whilst launching or recovering. Some insist that the boat is recovered whilst not in use, I.e can't leave it in a marina or on a mooring. Yada yada....

I've used Crafinsure for years but one proviso in the wording is no cover if boat left moored unattended on tidal waters.
Is this standard for the industry? Even if moored on a floating pontoon/jetty?

I keep my 100k cruiser on a tidal mooring all summer and i insure with craftinsure you just have to speak to them and they will cover whatever you need
They are very helpfull if you need something special or out of the ordinary

Ahh, may be different for my £2k SIB and little 2 smoke!
But specifically it states under 'General Exclusions' in the Small Boat Policy:
We will not pay for:
*Loss or damage while "insert boat name here" is left afloat when unattended except on non-tidal waters*

As an aside, my insurance "generally" doesn't cover me if left afloat. However, if I want to leave the boat on a pontoon or mooring short term, when on holiday for example, I can ring them & they will cover it, usually at no extra charge.

Also in the small print is that fact that most limit you to 12Nm from a safe haven.
I have had mine extended to 20 miles by way of an endorsement as I often fish wrecks that are just over 12 miles out ………………..

One of the reasons I went with Mercia is that their Navigators policy covers me "from the Elbe to Brest & passages between" which is basically all of Northern Europe. We went to Croatia & Italy last year with the boat & they extended the cover to include the Med & leaving the boat on a mooring, at no extra charge. I've added 6 weeks of cover in Spain & Portugal for this year including leaving on a mooring or pontoon & they charged me £15

Again not something that bothers most of us SIB owners in our little 12ft rubber tubs - a mile or so out feels like you're halfway to Normandy!

The thing with craftinsure is people think they only deal online but if you ring you actually speak to a real person who is helpfull and if they cant answer your question they get someone to call you back who actually does call you promptly all of which i find quite rare nowadays
