I've been lurking in the background for a while now. First post, so here goes..

I brought my 6.0m XS in May last year. I went for the Suzuki 140 4 stroke after trying both the Optimax and Suzuki at Ribex. The Suzi is a fantastic engine, quiet and smooth. I keep the rib in Southampton and use it to potter around the Solent on weekends as often as I can.

The Rib has an orange hull and blue tubes (called eXcesS) so give a shout and wave if you see me out and about.

Hi

I have just bought an XS 600 with an Optimax 115
It was Laurence’s Demo Boat last year so we got it more or less as it came.

It is my first RIB having always been sailing before but my then 12yr old son put me up to it as he seems o prefer power boating to sailing. Actually I lie as we still have a 18yr old Avon 2.8 RIB which we bought new as a tender but don’t think that counts.

Laurence stored it for us until just before Easter when we trucked it to Spain where it will stay. We were out just before Easter and had a great time.

We are a family of 4 and just want to use it to explore and swim from. No water-skiing, racing or anything like that.

Most of the Ribs we saw out there are Valliant’s or Medliners with fancy cushions and tables but we decided that wasn’t for us.

Hi Andy I should have said. I am the other owner in the same yard at Drivers Wharf. 550 blue tubes and white hull with the 100 4 Stroke Mercury. Are you about this weekend? I am acting as committe boat for a round the island yacht race starting at 9:00 at Cowes. With the weather forcast the way it is I think I will be sitting anchored at Bembridge ledge from mid afternoon till evening acting as the finsh line, so if anyone is passing say hello!! You can get me on the radio on Ch72 "Bubbles" or "RIOW Rib".

With a Rib in spain I think you will soon be well sorted with offers of exchange visits

XS Rib

Hi just took delivery of a 6.0m XS, blue tubes, white hull, grey deck, with a suzuki 140. Got to rig the little beastie but can't wait to get out on the water, hopefully it goes as well as it looks on the drive!

It will be used as a power boat training vessel around the Solent and Chrsitchurch Bay areas. It will also be for fun and bare boat charter.

The boat will be called "No Worries"

I was going to take of the www.ribs billboard Laurence put on the windscreen. see the pitures I posted above. I thought Acetone and a soft cloth would do it but am worried that it might craze the purspex screen. Has anybody else done this?

Also I noticed the the lockers under the Jockey seats leak after rain or heavy spray. I suspect that the water runs down the ss backrest fittings and then through the bolt holes. I was going to take the bolts out and refit them beded in mastic. Has anybody else had this problem and if so have they fixed it?

My jockeys do the same. I suspect water runs down the seat cushion and soaks through the fabric on the underside of the seat. I'm having some console and jockey seat covers made to keep the rain off.

Hi Andy
Thanks for the idea on the covers
I was going to make up a cover that goes over the console and seats anyway to keep the sun from bleaching them too much anyway. However I was supprised how much water gor in on 3 of the lockers but the forth was completely dry.

Also I was surprised when I queried with Laurence that the boat came without any punture repair kit. I had assumed it woud but he indicated the amature repairs would not be posible and I think he implied that the boat should go back to him or XS. That would be a 4000ml round trip and a dissappointment to the family if I couldnt do at least a tempoary repair to keep us going to the end of the season. I have just been clearing out my garage and found an ould avon repair kit and it made me think about it.

don't put acetone anywhere near your screen - if it is either acrylic (perspex) or polycarbonate the results will be disasterous.

Thanks for the reply on the Acetone It is what I feared. Any ideas on how to get this signwritinng off. Do i just have to try to peel them off using soap and water? They may have hardened and it will look a real mess if I only manage to get half off. I notice that you dont have any Andy. or were they never put on for you in the first place.

Is it just vinyl lettering? I've found that pouring very hot water over it softens it enough to peel off easily.

leave it out in the sun or get a hair dryer on it and peel it off or put it in the bath with some warm soapy water overnight possibly.
