It was a few weeks ago, but Practical Boat Owner reported this month that a historic yacht had been lost in similar circumstances.
I left my copy in Menorca so can't look it up for you.

The guy had spent 5 years restoring it from a complete wreck then mis-understood a radio message about the ships course I think.

Perhaps I've missed something? I just read this as a bit of hearsay.

Pressman certainly seems to think so.

Aha... so "Pressman" is GTflash's "friend" on the inside, then?

My mate is the harbour master, he was the guy who gave him the radio instructions to hold course as requested by the pilot. A dead patch of wind failed to get the yachty past the bow of the ship and he went one side of the ship and his yacht the other, unlike his boat the yachty was pushed away by the bow wave..

However my mate didnt tell me direct and i do not know if there are any following proceedings so ive chosen to convey this message as hearsay or gossip!

Sounds like it is the story in PBO this month.

As I remember the owner holds his hand up to making a big mistake. Something along the lines of being told to hold his course but deciding as he'd been on that course for 10 minutes already he thought he must have miss-heard the radio message, so changed course anyway.

By the look of the picture it was a good looking classic about 20ft in length.
Shame.

So the Yachty was instructed to hold course by the harbour master on advise from the pilot? Then the wind dropped, leaving him in trouble? Ouch....

My question to Pressman still remains, though. What do you mean by "sums it up" ? Where you part of the LB crew? Did it happen as above, and if so who's going to accept responsibility for the collision? Or did it happen like Nasher says. Already we have two different versions, so if you know what happened as an eye witness, do tell...
