"The Grocer" is on Arran so you might want to contact him, he's not posted for a wee while - so perhaps a nice PM. He may of course be exceedingly busy so unable to help. Bear in mind its probably 30 miles from one end of the island to the other, so he may not even be that local.
if the person selling it is ever on the main land and it is small enough to transport i'd happily have a look at it for you as i'm down that way quite often.
failing that, ask for video of it starting/running and general pics of the usual things. i also would ask for pictures of a PSI reading on all cylinders.
Okay, much obliged guys. I have contacted the seller to ask a couple of questions and find out where and when the engine could be viewed. If it looks like a possibility then I'll PM 'The Grocer' to see if he can assist. Cheers!
Hmm. If you PM me a name etc, I've got the local phone book...
If they answered my email (via Boatsand outboards) I might stand a chance of getting a name. Either a scam or it's already sold and seller can't be bothered to answer perhaps?

B&O - then from past reading on here either of your suspicions is viable; with maybe a hint of leaning towards the first...
