I know it is not PC to say but in my youthful past I was helming a 6m Searider and witnessed a jetsier buzzing swimmers. I decided enough was enough so gave him his own treatment. The vitriol he gave me was quite edifying and my stoical reply was - I don't care but if I saw him doing it again I would run over the top of him. Needless to say might is right won the day that time.

It is unfortunate that the world of jetsis seem to have an overly large ratio of idiots involed. Indeed I thought one og the websites seemed to think that it was an unfortunate accident as he was an experienced power boater! There was one notable exception who stated he didn't want to be in a race with someone who couldn't even steer a PWC properly.

I for one am glad that the Scillies make it VERY difficult to own or operate one in these waters.

Ian

It seems entirely wrong that a few barely functioning cretins on jet skis should force more competent and responsible individuals out of certain bays or from particular stretches of water.

In fairness it is more likely just the world of anything that offers a lot of speed for relatively little money being an idiot magnet - buzzy little hot hatches attract more than their fair share of idiots as well. A powerful jetski is just like the Fiesta Turbo XR478i of the water really isn't it - driven by some moron with their hat on back to front whose total number of tattoos and piercings probably exceeds the number of words in their day to day vocabulary.

Ooo me prejudices are showing, I'd better shut up

I was merely getting down with several of my homies in my 'hood, before heading off to pop a cap in someone's bottom.

Innit.

An -ahem- interesting take on the accident from some Bournemouth Echo readers:

I am hearing a different account of who hit who , i think the echo had better find the truth quickly and then print the facts.

we are hearing from a marine police source the lad fell off the back of the ski taking the dead man switch out ,cutting the engine and the sailing boat hit him?

I saw the damaged yacht in Poole today, the picture in that Echo report does not do it justice. The damage is horrible and to think a Jetski + human were responsible. The impact speed must have been enormous. The fact that the driver is alive is amazing.
Howver, I still think they should prosecute, to set an example to others.

Not the kind of damage it'd get running into a stationary jetski then?

I read the Echo article.

Mmmm .... <Bump>?

You would think the difference between hitting something at 6 knots and 50 knots is probably fairly obvious even to the average reader of the minor tabloid press

Or even better, call us on Ch16 which will actually get heard...Ch67 is purely a Solent thing, and this job was well into Portland's patch who like the rest of us do not respond on Ch67...

And I assume you mean SSR number, SSRO is the Solent Sea Rescue Organisation...anyway jetskis wouldn't have SSR numbers

Reminds me of the old Jasper Carrott sketch with car insurance claims.

....And judging from recent posts on the YBW forum, there should be a few posts here from new members defending the jetskier any minute...

Cheers

Chris

Loving some of the exchanges between those who obviously know what they are talking about and the partially brained, this is a classic

I'm quite appalled that the Birmingham Navy appears to have this shocking level of ignorance.
