If only it was about risk - more to do with the hotel opposite and the noise the car park generates me thinks - with skies being an easy target.

Exactly, this is a move to close the slipway to all users.

That said, slipways are for boats to get to water. Not old for old Grans to walk down and ask "are there any fish in there?" I had a fat burd plonk her arse on my SIB one day while I was recovering on the local slip. She seemed to think the local council had put it there for her arse to catch its breath on. She was well miffed when I told her to hop it...

Hence the conversations with both my local councillor and the chair / vice chair of the committee that made the decision as the full slipway use wasn't highlighted and no stakeholder engagement has taken place on other options.

Nice letter, lays out a good argument, but explaining to a local council that they could charge up to £300 per annual license is a bit of an own goal.

Launching there once a month during the summer suddenly becomes and expensive day out.

What do you think would be fair to pay for use of the slipway and parking for the day?

We used to pay £10 a launch there which included parking - when only out for the 3-4 hours of the tide seemed sensible - just. A large % of the users are only out for the tide, not the day.

It's about £6.50 in Bude, free at most Plymouth slips and Bideford. I don't mind paying, we always did, but £300 a year for a few launches is expensive and will shut the slip as fast as a bollard.

My regular slipway is £25 per pop ,or £205 april to march , privately owned in the suffolk yacht harbour ,not alot to see close by and no jetskis ,luckily slip is too steep to attract too many casual passers by ,and enters into the river ,so 8 knots for a mile or two before reaching the sea ,,,,,,,,maybe all the downsides will be our positives

Whitby is £25/day including parking. Good slip most states of tide into a sheltered harbour. Use of pontoon if you talk nicely to the marina master. Showers/toilets/freshwater wash down. 5 min walk into town.

There's no reason there couldn't be a day rate of £25 or something as well if you are only going to launch occasionally.

Considering the location and scarcity of parking in the area, I don't think that would be too bad.

There's a reason why Appledore is always packed compared to Bideford...

The car park is currently mostly a campsite for all the motor homes that park there.
I hope you're right about a chance for "changes for the better" but in my experience the longer things have run perfectly well and Dandy for long periods of time.....the easier it it is for someone (usually with their own short term and often short sighted "political" agenda) ...to Fck them up for all!

c. £25 at Brixham / Torquay to launch/ recover & park trailer.

Why not suggest options for fee per launch and annual licence - so not only for locals but for also visitors who I'm sure would bring more trade into the town.

I've used Appledore slip a couple of times to launch my SIB. It meant I spent some money in local pubs and ice cream van. These councillors often fail to see that bigger picture. If it was £25 for the day I would have launched elsewhere and those businesses would lose out. A cost of that amount for a proper boat trailer and parking would be just about palatable as I've thought about doing Lundy from Appledore in the RIB but lack of proper trailer parking put me off.

Had the same comment to Weymouth Harbour when they removed their 30mins free visitors mooring. No longer pop in for a quick pint/ice cream/fish and chips.

Numbers (Potential Votes) Matter
More people who know thier plans/agenda ....the more support you'll rally.

And they’ve canned the whole thing so it’s back to status quo for this year.

I don’t think that’s really a good outcome, but it’s better than their proposed solution.

...Good news (for now) I'd say....good sence prevails.

A lot of people in power and organisations often use extreme circumstances to hide their actions and further agendas.... which would normally get much more scrutiny.
Hopfully ....if this course of action raises its head again in the future people will be better placed to organise and oppose.
